Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy unveiled the province’s 2023 budget on Thursday.
It shows Ontario plans to start posting surpluses in a year.
The government will be leaning heavily on booming revenues to outweigh increased spending on health care, which includes boosts to hospitals, home care and the medical workforce.
The budget shows Ontario expects to run a $1.3-billion deficit, before exiting a small surplus of $200 million in 2024-25, followed by a $4.4-billion surplus the following fiscal year.

Although classrooms have largely returned to pre-pandemic operations, final exams aren’t necessarily back on every high schooler’s schedule. Over the past three years, students have faced different final assessments depending on their province, school board or even their individual teachers.
While some reinstated exams as before, others have yet to resume the practice.

The Ontario government is implementing a new high school graduation requirement it says will help better prepare students across the province for the jobs of tomorrow.

The Government of Saskatchewan is committing over $20 million for online learning as part of its record $3.1 billion education budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
A total of $23 million will be allocated to the operation of the newly formed Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation (Sask. DLC).
The Ministry of Education’s total budget includes an investment of $3.1 billion, this marks an increase of $192.8 million or 6.7 per cent over last year.

Ontario high school students in Ontario will be required to take a mandatory technological education class in order to earn their diploma, according to the ministry of education — a change that the Ford government hopes will boost the number of students looking to enter the skills trades.
The government said the technological education course, which would be mandatory beginning in September 2024, would cover a wide range of sectors, including construction, transportation, manufacturing, computer, technology, hospitality, and communications.
