Former school board director accused of violating expense rules to face hearing

A former Hastings Prince Edward School Board director of education will be the subject of an Ontario College of Teachers disciplinary hearing.
Sean Monteith left the director’s position in March of 2021 without explanation after being hired two years earlier.
Monteith is accused by the disciplinary committee of the Ontario College of Teachers of not keeping required records, signing documents he knew to be untrue and charging the school board for expenses in violation of the board’s policies.
Those alleged expenses involved travel, flights and hotels for himself and others.

Yukon government launches new online student financial assistance portal
The Yukon government has introduced a new online student financial assistance application portal, according to an Aug. 1 statement.
With the launch of the portal, the statement said post-secondary students from the territory can apply for grants and loans online, check the status of their applications and view funding decision letters, all on one platform.

17 regional student advocates appointed by the Quebec education ministry
The Ministry of Education on Wednesday named 17 regional student advocates who will assist their national counterpart, Jean-François Bernier.
The education ministry announced in a press release that the chosen individuals would “handle all complaints from students and parents, including those concerning bullying, violence and sexual abuse against students attending an educational institution.”
